Pogo Linux

Published on:

I can’t go into the details, but I wanted everyone to know that Pogo Linux is an awesome company. We recently bought a new Nexenta based NAS from them. We were apparently an edge case and one of our requirements didn’t work right.  Through no fault of Pogo’s, the NAS really just didn’t work for us and they agreed to take it back and refund us.

I’ve got a bitter taste in my mount from Nexenta, but I sure do love Pogo. Their support was stellar.

I would happily do business with Pogo again and would recommend them to anybody.

Linux Laptop Deals

Published on:

In case you’re in the market for a new Linux Laptop, check out System 76’s line of laptops. They’re having a Christmas sale (“Holiday sale” in their vernacular) with discounts and deals on certain models.

If I were going to buy a new laptop tomorrow to replace my macbook, I would buy the 14.1″ Lemur Ultra, upgrading the RAM to 8G and the free (Holiday sale) 750G hard drive upgrade.

They have desktops too.

And if you send them a Self Addressed Stamped Envelope (SASE), they’ll send you “Powered by Ubuntu” stickers for your other laptop. So I could have one on my macbook if I really wanted to.

Full disclosure: I’m NOT affiliated with System76 in any way and I’m not receiving anything from them. I just really want one.

One year photo shoot

The following is a real conversation while we were getting ready for our daughter’s one year photo shoot.

Me: Grace, did you find the yummy beef jerky?

Wife: But she’ll smell like beef jerky during the photo shoot.

Me: They’re not scratch and sniff photos.

(I got out my phone).

Wife: Are you posting that to facebook?

Me. Nope.

Upgrading Ubuntu

On my Dell Mini 9, I just installed Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, then installed all the updates.

Now I’m running the distribution upgrade to get to Ubuntu 12. The hard drive wasn’t big enough to install 12.04 directly.

But during the upgrade, I got this error message… but I couldn’t read any of the text. Great. Hope it works in a couple hours when it’s done.
